Beach Photo Shoot

Last full day in Cabo....time for a photo shoot with the nice camera.  We decided that since we packed it, we needed to at least break it our for one day.  I had Kathy posing on the beach (as you can tell by her faux running along the beach).  It was reminiscent of my childhood years where my dad would stage my sister and I for our family vacation pics...."stand up straight", "get that stupid look off your face", "smile dammit", etc, etc.  This also took place on the first day of school, where somehow the picture taking would start just as the school bus pulled up....the bus driver would honk, the kids would yell out the window at us, etc, etc....but that wasn't going to stop dad from getting that "natural" first day of school pose.  Anyway, we had a great last day in Cabo...took full advantage of the 2-4pm Happy Hour with 2x1 drinks and then a nice dinner at Javier's next door to our hotel.  Going home tomorrow at 2pm....actually very excited to go home and see Veda and little Adele!

Day 5 - Cabo San Lucas

Yesterday we ventured into Cabo San Lucas for the afternoon and evening (we are staying in the little town of Cabo San Jose).  The difference was pretty aparent the minute we stepped out of our Taxi.  San Jose is a quiet little town, great little (authentic) restaurants and nice shops (all very clean and free of peddlers).  Cabo San Lucas is it's polar opposite sister city.  There was a guy trying to sell you something every 10 ft you walked...anything from t-shirts to stuff that you could get locked up in mexican prison for...definitely a Spring Break town.  We ended up having a great dinner in the marina area after a little shopping for trinkets...Laabs & Sayre family...guess what you're getting for X-mas this year??

"Corazon Espinado"

Since Day 2 in Cabo, BJ has been singing the Carlos Santana song "Corazon Espinado"...finally, last night we found a mariachi band that could play and sing the words to it.  You can see his sheer excitement here in the picture.  While in Cabo tonight, we got to hear it again from a solo act during's definitely the theme song of Cabo 2010. These are our friends we met at the resort. Cindy is from Winterset, Iowa and Mike is from Michigan. They now live in LA so we had plenty to chat about. They were good Euchre competitors and could hold their own at Yahtzee too.

Day 3 & 4

We're a little behind on the blogging down here...I know, it's very stressful and time consuming sitting on the beach all day drinking cervezas and margharitas.  The other night we went out to Don Sanchez restaurant (originally named Dirty Sanchez, but then changed shortly after for obvious reasons.)  This was Kathy's favorite restaurant of the entire trip....mainly because they offered free salsa lessons on Thursday (she insists we go back tomorrow.)

Day 2 - ATV

We had an awesome three hour tour through the dessert this morning. We saw some creepy bugs and reptiles and this beautiful beach. The rest of the crew is hanging at the pool at the hotel right now. I popped my eardrum in the the pool and then fainted in front of everyone... totally embarassing... so I'm laying low in the room right now. Don't worry Mom - I'm fine;)

Day 1

I'm about 10 minutes from a coma in this picture. After dinner I went straight to bed while the rest of the crew headed out for a late night swim. I didn't move an inch for 10 hours. The best night sleep I've had in 2 years. Today we laid by the pool and had an AMAZING dinner in San Jose Los Cabos at Tequila. It's dead here - hardly anyone at the resort  - so we have the run of the place! Good times. Tomorrow we leave at dawn for an ATV tour!!

They're Here!

Bull and Nana are in the house. Veda couldn't be more excited... to my delight! Even Adele is warming up to the newcomers. We are up handling the last packing details - tomorrow morning the fun begins!

Time Out?

Dad, Nana and Bull. Come quick please! I can't wait for reinforcements to arrive tomorrow morning. I feel like I've been on another planet all week. Veda is an alien. All week she has been doing little things to test me. This was one of them. She climbed in the snap 'n go and wouldn't get out so I could put the baby's carseat in. I give up. Maybe it's because she has been sick or maybe because she misses Dad... we've gotten a lot of practice with Time Out though and it seems to be working... sort of... does it count if she laughs when I put her there?

Flat Line

Gary sent me a message this morning to see if we were still kicking since I hadn't posted since Sat. Truth is - it's been a hell of a week... and it's only Wed morn. We aren't even over the hump yet. Todd has been in Cincinatti since Sunday night and both of the girls have been sick sick sick. At one point I considered a career as a Vampire. I mean I was up all night anyway - why not?

Adele has been sleeping upright in her carseat so she can breath and Veda sounds like she ate a horse. Everyone is feeling better though and now I can focus on the Mexico trip - departure = 3 days!!! I don't even care if it rains the entire time we are there. A Corona and Euchre under an unbrella sounds like good times to me!

Happy Birthday Uncle Kiss!... I mean Uncle Ryan!

Happy 33rd Uncle Ry! Boy you are old! Hope your BBQ bday party is a blast. I bought Ry a nice leather keychain for his birthday. When he was visiting I noticed that he didn't have a keychain... just a mess of keys... and when he left here he almost left without them. Good thing his big sister went through the "Did you remember...?" checklist. It has a clip on it too so he can attach them to his jeans. I'm always looking out for him!

So what seemed to be just a case of a runny nose turned into a sleepless night for everyone. Adele's nose is now running and I fear she is only going to get worse. I woke up to Veda screaming at 4 in the morning... Todd was using a saline spray on her and she was not having it. She had a temp of 103 and was talking gibberish. It was pretty funny considering how miserable she felt. She kept telling us that each of her body parts hurt. After she went through all of her orifices she held out her finger to tell us her finger hurt too... and she smirked.

No Strep! Just a very nasty cold. Veda was a crowd favorite at the Dr.'s office. Through the sobbing and tears she was still able to muster enough strength to give nurse Martha and Dr. Kundell their shots and listen to their heartbeats with her Dr.'s kit (thanks Parenting Magazine for this helpful tip).

It will only hurt for a second...

Veda has a new favorite treat. Popcorn puffs (fake popcorn - thanks AA). She finished her bowl and we told her they were all gone. Todd then told her (after constant nagging) that the only way to get more would be to operate and take them out of her tummy. She ran to get her Dr tools and lifted her shirt above her head. Clearly she was game.

Today we head to the real Dr. Veda is sick AGAIN! The neighbor has Strep so I'm fearing the worst. Hope to get it knocked out early and glad we could get in before the weekend. AND very thankful this is happening now and not when my parents get here next week!

In preparation for our visit today I had Veda pack all her Dr. tools in her purse. She will bring her baby along too so she can practice before we see Dr. Kundell.

6 Months!

Adele is 6 months old today! She's sitting (although I wasn't going to take my chances on the cement), eating solids and getting very close to crawling. Her big sister loves to make her giggle and loves to take away her toys and make her cry;) She is also officially switching to an all formula diet today. I'm packing up the pump and storing it away just in time for the Mexico trip. Will it ever see the light of day again? Stay tuned...

For the Love of Handbags

This story on Janice's blog (Just Crusts!) just made me cry I was laughing so hard. I can totally see myself doing this. My brain feels like mush everyday! While you are at her blog be sure to sign up so you can follow her every day!

Circus Tricks

This morning I laid Dell down on the floor while I went to take a shower. I came back in and she was sitting up smiling at me. What???? She can hardly sit up on her own as it is so I was baffled. My first thought was that Veda had picked her up and sat her down... then she fell over and sat back up again. Amazing. Not even six months old yet!

The Twins are Two!!

We headed in to LA for Jacob and Alexander's birthday party today. Of course Christina and Jonathan went all out. We were not disappointed. They hired the caterers they had for the first birthday party - like a taco truck without the truck - so yummy. The highlight was the pinata. Veda wasn't the least bit shy - we had a hard time holding her back from the driving range. After all was done... the pinata laid in ruins and not a jelly bean remained... Veda picked up the stick and started swatting away. Whatever. All the other kids ran for the candy when Thomas busted open - Veda grabbed his face and ran with it. I had to redirect her to the goods because mama needs her sugar!

Good Friends Good Times

These are my sisters. The Strauss' lived two houses away from us in Iowa City. We grew up playing every day. From tree houses to talent shows to lemonade stands... we were inseperable. Funny thing that we ALL ended up in California. Jackie, Abby and Judy live in Long Beach. Elly is in San Diego and didn't make the trip up to Camarillo. We had a fun playdate with Abby's girls Sophie and Sara and the Iowa/Iowa State game was on - just like home. It's a shame it's taken so long for us to get together. Looking foward to the next get together.

Go Hawks;)!

Thanks for the super cute Iowa shirts Dana! Today was one of those days that Todd and I were missing home. What fun it would have been to be at the game. Thank Goodness for Direct TV!

15.08 lbs. 25.5 inches. 50% head, weight and head. Dell had her 6 month appointment and shots today. She got a glowing report of course and we left with some advice to get her sleeping through the night.

Spontaneous Disney Fun!

Daycare was closed today so Jenn could take Ella to Disneyland. Soooooo I took a vacation day and we decided to go with and so did Drew, Morgan, and their moms. A perk of living in Southern Cal that we can hop in the car for a day with Mickey - and we can do it during the week and off-season! I remember the 20 hour great trek in the wagon to Disney in Florida when we were kids and we would be fighting the summer crowds. We would spend long days packing in all we could. Today we saw what we could but no pressure... we will probably go back for the season pass. Veda could not have had more fun. I thought the rides would be the highlight but the walking talking Disney characters were all the rage!

Kel, Chris and Owen were in town for the holiday weekend. We miss you guys already. Thanks for making the third annual Labor Day trip to Cali.
