City Girl meets Tractor

For many of our blog readers this probably doesn't seem like a big deal but for us (Me and the kids) it's a really big deal. While Todd and I were enjoying date night Friday, Papi and Veda were having a date of their own. Veda was pretty excited to help plant the field with Papi's friend. I asked Veda what they talked about while they were planting and she said Movies and Food.

Happy 60th!

In addition to celebrating Mother's Day yesterday Didi got to ring in another birthday year. Eight years ago yesterday Todd and I were stranded at a shady hotel outside Heathrow Airport near London. Our flight was cancelled and Todd called to wish his Mom a happy birthday from a toll booth and let her know that we wouldn't be making it home in time to walk the stage for our graution from the MBA program. We were only classmates back then. Never would have guessed his Mom would be Grandmother to MY three kids 8 years later!
We headed to the lake this weekend to help with the resturant and hotel. Happy we got to spend some time with Didi for her birthday. We'll be back soon...!

Getting too comfortable with nature

I left a small stream of water coming from the faucet for the girls to play with. Turned into a massive mud fight. Hours of fun;)

Best seat in the house...

We aren't really potty training... in fact I'm avoiding it but Adele is obsessed with the potty and has learned how to take her diaper off so it's like having a loaded gun in the house. It was warm enough Saturday to let her practice outside.

Stunt Man

Winston has learned how to roll over. This is a problem. Before he would lay on his mat for up to an hour just kicking his legs and arms and generally enjoying the view. Now he immediately rolls over and then starts to scream because he hates it on his stomach. Not the smartest...

5 Years

I didn't want to forget to acknowlegde that Todd and I had our 5th Anniversary on April 27th. I delayed getting a sitter because I didn't feel comfortable leaving all three with anyone. So we decided to bring little buddy with. We got a few strange looks bringing a baby to a relatively nice restuarant on a Friday night but as usual he was a gem... the restuarant we had our engagement dinner at (Red) in Hyde Park closed down so we went to Wild Ginger instead and drove by the old house on Delta Ave. It was a good night;)

Overheard

Adele was having a meltdown of epic proportions... I suggested to Veda that she help show Adele how to take deep breaths to calm down to which Veda responded, "I don't need to take deep breaths, I'm not the one freaking out."

Mastering the Bike

On her first attempt, Adele has already logged more time on the glider bike than Veda did. She seems to have a bit more persistence and should have it mastered soon.

Pet Cemetery

Kathy insisted I mercy kill Nemo last night because he was floating upside down. We enacted the Pet Cemetery last night and guess what, Nemo is alive. He is swimming backwards and seems a bit disoriented but appears he will make it. This unfortunately sets a lofty bar for pets in the future.

Nemo's 6 Month Anniversary

~Scene starts with Nemo doing the back float in the fish tank...

Todd - "Hey Kathy - I think Nemo is D-E-A-D"
Veda - "Mom, Nemo doesn't look so good"
Kathy - "Really, what's wrong"
Veda - "Nemo's dead, can I get a bird?"

3 Months and Easy Peasy

Winston is so chill. I just love him to pieces. He sleeps all night for the most part and if he starts skwirming I just give him his paci and he goes straight to sleep. I don't think he has ever cried during the night. He has his gassy moments and cries sometimes when he's exhausted but it doesn't last long. Just put him in his magic carseat and he goes to sleep. I was told going from 2 to 3 would be easier than 1 to 2 and I didn't believe it - but it's true. This Mom of three isn't sleep deprived - knock on wood and so far I've been able to survive outings with all three with relative ease. Feeling blessed.

Planting Season

So the neighbors moved to London and their house has been vacant for the past month. As far as I can tell there aren't any takers... so we thought maybe no one would notice if we borrowed their vegetable garden for the summer... which sits on our property line;) Didi was in town and she is a pro at gardening so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have her help. We planted tomatoes (cherry and regular), eggplant, artichokes, strawberries, green beans, carrots, peppers and lettuce (aggressive now that I think about it ). We even found some stray lettuce growing from last year's crop and had it for dinner. I suppose if the new tenants object we can bribe them with veggies!

Girls Weekend (and winston too)

Didi came to town! The girls made pizzas from biscuit dough... loved this project. Then we picked lettuce from the neighbor's vegatable garden and fed it to Adele. She loved it. Might have been the ranch dressing that she sucked off of everything...

Overheard

This morning Todd went in to get Veda as her alarm was going off. She rolled over and said "Dad... my sound machine is sick, it's talking to me." (The alarm was set to the radio).

Catch Me Some Dinner!

Todd spent the weekend fishing in Florida with his college buddies Dave, Ben, Joe and Keegan. Grandpa Gary owns a fishing boat and beach house near Clearwater, Fl so the boys were taken care of. They even got to catch a Twins game in Tampa. Didi came to help me with the kids and Todd made us FRESH fish tacos for dinner when he got home on Sunday. He brought home an entire cooler full of the good stuff.

Fishing with 'Gary'

Veda's been a long time fan of fishing on the dock with Grandpa Gary. This was the first time that Adele was able to enjoy it as well. While they really like reeling in walleyes or striped bass, their favorite part is cleaning the fish, or as Veda likes to call it "cutting their heads off". Grandpa had quite the audience in the garage...

My new Favorite Picture of Adele

It's very fitting...

Reminiscing about California

Some pics from our trip to California last month. It was great to see all of our friends back there and also to get some quality time at the beach (and breakfast at our favorite hang out - Paradise Cove).

Painting Everything

Kathy let the girls outside to 'finger' paint on some paper. Well, the novelty of 'finger' painting wore off quickly and they proceeded to move towards, hand-painting, feet-painting and even face-painting. At one point, Veda was doing her best Curious George impersonation, walking on all fours making tracks where ever she could. Adele was her normal self, a mess...

Fighting for Nemo

One of the more exciting tasks of the morning. Always fighting for stool space - especially to Feed Nemo the Fish.

Opposites

Adele and Winston had their 2 month and 2 year check-ups last week. Winston weighed in at 13 lbs (60%) and measured 24 inches (83%). Adle on the otherhand weighed only 24 lbs (15%) and measured at the 20% in height. She's a peanut and Winston is shaping up to be large and in charge. Watch out Adele!
