Overheard

After the Uthof family reunion last Friday we forgot to bring in the trash from the deck. Diane told Veda that the racoons ate all her trash. "What good helpers they are," Veda said.

At the reunion Uncle Evan asked Veda if she wanted to play basketball with Landon. Veda said she couldn't because her skin was dry.

When leaving Clear Lake Diane told Veda she was going to miss her. Veda responded by giving Didi "a big hug to keep inside your body so you can remember me."

First Chow

I don't think it's going to take Winston long to get a hang of this eating thing and I suspect that he is going to be a very very big boy in a couple of months once we introduce fruit and vegatables.

Story Time at Willow Creek

The park down the street from the house I grew up in is Willow Creek. When were as young as eight mom let us walk the quarter mile to the park by ourselves. I can't imagine that now. She also let us hop on the bus after school when I was in 4th grade to eat pizza at Rocky Rococo downtown amongst the college students.

The Iowa City Public Library has story time at our park on Wednesday mornings. Veda loved it. When Kathy from the Library asked how many kids had signed up for the summer reading program Veda raised her hand high in the sky. Not sure she understood the question.

Grilling With Friends

Adele loves to drive the neighbors' dogs nuts. Their owers sit at the back door and yell at them while they bark. It's almost as bad as the barking;)

We had our friends over to grill some of the fish Todd caught in Florida. Ry was particularly excited.

Uncle Ryan Meets Sir Winston

Ry flew in to spend a few days with us and then drove with us back to Iowa. He got some snuggle time in with Winston. He babysat for Winston and he screamed the entire time... well Ry said if he walked really really fast in circles that he would stop for awhile. So Ry walked really really fast in circles for about an hour.

 Running for Ice Cream!

We just returned from a long trip in Iowa. We finally got to spend a few days in Iowa City before heading up to the lake. We met up with Emily and the girls at the Children's Museum. Evy and Veda really hit it off and Adele just tried her hardest to keep up with them. Charlie just did her own thing;)

Happy Father's Day

To all the Dad's in our life. We love you, Kathy, Veda, Adele and Winston.

Tending Bar

To say that opening weekend was a success is an understatement. The Landing was slammed and Gary and Diane ended up busting tables. Too bad that the staff isn't allowed to drink while they work;) Hopefully they will have a few days to catch their breath as things slow down. We can't wait to get there next weekend!

Adele was mesmerized by the coin operated fortune teller at Jungle Jim's. Veda just thought he was funny.

Winston and The Boss

Winston made the trip with me to Columbus today for our office bbq. He got to meet my boss Jim. He didn't spit up on him so I still have a job;)

Hip hip hooray!

Uncle Ry is coming today! Sir Winston will meet him for the first time and we will all watch Bachelorette episodes that I've been saving on the DVR. Coincidentally there is always a new season on when Ry comes to visit. He claims he isn't a fan but yet he asked if Gina was the new Bachelorette... I didn't even know who he was talking about.

On the move

He can't sit up but he's mastered an abbreviated army crawl. Wish he'd just lay on the mat and play with his toys;)

Backyard

After living in a townhouse for five years I can tell you that having a yard should not be taken for granted. It's so nice to have a large open space for the kids to play while I can watch from the window in the kitchen;)

Bountiful Harvest

Our garden (uh um - our neighbor's garden) is in full bloom and we are already enjoying the fresh herbs. Veda is most excited about the strawberries and I'm most excited for the green beans and tomatoes! I feel bad for admitting it - but I'm glad they haven't found any renters next door. As long as no one is living next door I don't feel bad about hijacking their garden plot.

Final Countdown

We are soooooo excited for the big opening and a little nervous. We won't be there for the weekend but we are sending Gary and Diane all our positive energy and hoping that everything goes as smoothly as possible and that we have a lot of HAPPY customers;)
