Family Photos
We tried to get a good family photo...because we don't have one. We eventually had to use the banana as a prop to distract Veda.
Field Trip
Todd and Chris took Veda to the Science Museum on Saturday... she needed to get out of the house and away from the babies. I think it's finally starting to hit her that she's not the center of attention;) My favorite is the picture of her trying to play with the phone - which is actually wallpaper. I also like the fake airplane... good practice for our trip to Iowa in a couple of weeks;)

Cousins
Grandma Didie will appreciate the photo with the vacuum cleaner - this is how she use to calm Kel when she was a baby. Owen was having a hard time calming down so we turned on the vacuum and he clamed right up. Adele enjoyed it too. Good thing Veda was already in bed otherwise we would have had a different kind of fit - she is terrified of vacuum cleaners!

Owie Here We Come!
It's a big weekend for us. We are headed to meet cousin Owen. I've been preparing all week for the 7 hour drive. Veda has lots of new toys and a new movie that will be revealed during the ride;) She has been practicing "Baby Owen" and I think she may have it down. Isn't this picture the best?! Smarter than she looks
We are really enjoying all of Veda's new words. Everyday she surprises us with something new (today it was "whale") and we are able to translate a new word that she has been using for some time but we didn't understand (today it was the word "again"). Tonight I was entertaining her while she was taking a bath. She looked up at me with her serious face and said "stop singing."

Boo boo
We were watching a movie the other night and someone got blown away with a shotgun. Apparently Veda was watching too because she kept saying "boo boo - boo boo".
Weekend Review
Todd was travelling all week again... this time Cincinatti - he left Monday and he returned late Thursday night. We enjoyed having him home for the weekend. Yesterday and today Veda got some pool time with Dad. Yesterday we took Veda and Adele to Shrek - their first movie. Veda lasted about half way through before she wanted to run around but she stayed close and the theatre was pretty empty so all in all it was a success... not a peep out of Adele. Last night Todd and I went on a date. It was great to have a meal out alone! This morning we took the girls to breakfast at the Camarillo airport... one of our favorite spots.
Sidewalk Art
Love the Crayola sidewalk paint. You can get it on anything and it washes off! Thanks Auntie Janice!

Bathtime Fun
Veda found the new box of swim diapers I bought and said please about 100 times until I let her put one on for the bathtub. The sunglasses came in the box. She wanted to go potty before she got in the tub though so 30 seconds after I put on the swim diaper we were taking it off... of course she managed to get it dirty in that short time. You'll be happy to know she didn't actually pee in the potty so I didn't object when she threw the potty in the tub and tried on each piece separately as a hat. She exhausts me.

Voting Day
So in addition to being my first day back to work it was also voting day in California... only in California does your polling place have voting cubbies outside!! When Veda was the same age as Adele (exact same age to the day I think) I took her to vote for the first time (bottom pic). Today was Adele's turn (top).
If you're wondering how my first day back went... frustrating would be the word. I spent the entire morning trying to work out kinks with HR and payroll to get me up and running again in the systems. Let's hope tomorrow is more productive.

She's Quick
I turned around for a second and Veda immediately picked up the bottle on the table and started to feed Adele. Hey... she got it in the right hole. She might have just earned herself a new job... she was pretty proud of herself.
When I've Exhausted All Other Options
I put Veda in the car in the garage with her movies. No matter how big of a breakdown she's having this always shuts her right up. Veda won't let me put her clothes on in the morning and going to daycare in her diaper just isn't an option so we have a little wrestling match each morning which usually results in a tantrum. She might just be hanging out in the car while I get myself organized each morning... maybe I'll take a shower!

Swim Lessons
I've decided that this has not been money well spent. A couple of weeks ago I couldn't get Veda out of her swimsuit and now I have a hard time getting it on. She's freaked out by the water now... the instructor might be a little too agressive for this wee one. She is big on putting them under water and Veda does not like that game... perhaps with some time it will work but we are struggling right now.
Reality
The out of office assistant is officially turned to off. I've laid out all of my files and rewritten my to-do list to date. Tommorrow is my first day back to work. I'm thankful that I don't have to get up early and spend an hour primping and that I might not even shower tomorrow;) Really - I don't have any work clothes that would fit right now anyway. My first travel appointment is just weeks away and Todd is going to fly solo with the girls while I'm in Detroit. It's hard to believe it's been 12 weeks already. It makes me sad that I look back and the whole thing is a blur. I hope I'm not saying that when the girls turn 18;)

More Peek-els
So Veda has a new favorite food...following in the Laabs foot steps, she loves raw carrots AND now pickles. Today I made her a hamburger for lunch. I added a slice of pickle to spice it up and she then pulled it apart and ate the pickle....she then said, more "peekles"....not sure how she knew what it was, but I think she likes them....
Bed Head
When Veda woke up from her nap today we found her at the top of the stairs with all of her friends and having a bad hair day.

Moonlighting as a Plumber
Todd stuffed the tops of a bunch celery stalks down the disposal. NOT ok. Good thing he's handy otherwise this would have been some really expensive celery. Veda found the whole thing very amusing.
Table for One Please
I found this cute little table and chairs on Craigslist for $25. Goodbye booster seat. Now the only trick is getting Veda to stay seated long enough to finish her meal.

Objection...leading the witness...

So I thought I would have a little fun with Kathy this evening by asking Veda some leading questions....Veda passed with flying colors....
Question: "Hi Veda...what does a cow say"
Answer: "Moo"
Question: "What do cows make?"
Answer: "Milkey"
Question: "What is Mommy making now?"
Answer: "Milkey"
Question: "Who else makes milk?"
Answer: "Cows"
Question: "So what does Mommy say?"
Answer: "Moooo"

Veda's First Pet
Today we welcomed Bob the Beta fish. He was the mascot in our neighbor's class but was sent home with Teaguen at the end of the year because he needed a home. Well they already had a Beta fish and Captain Jack was trying to kill Bob so Bob had to relocate to our house. Given the excitement at the aquarium last weekend this seemed like a good idea. Now that Captain Jack is out of the picture the only one Bob needs to protect himself from is Veda.
